Permanent Question: When was last time you did a backup of your data files?
Response: I do mine every evening - If you have a backup and lose your data I can help you - no backup - shame on you - I can't help. It is not a question of will you ever lose all your data - its only a matter of when ! How often should you back up? - As often as you have data that you don't want to re-enter again. See item 15 below -- especially if you are using a zip drive.

QUESTIONS AND RESPONSES:
36- - On K9DCJ USA #86 record -- Enter ** SILENT in the NOTES field and save. The ** double asterisk tells the program to display this call only and do not post data from this record. The SILENT simply indicates Silent Key
On Record #584 WB0DPD (if not already done )- change the call to K9DCJ and the old call WB0DPD goes in the former call field. The
* Dupe simply means that there there is more then one call with this callsign (K9DCJ)
35 - I received the following message today from a KWIN2000 user who was having problems printing - especially the 2nd page of print orders - and I list below because I know that others have experienced this problem and in some cases had the problem even after down loading new printer drivers - If you are still having problems printing page 2 - you may try this also.
Hi Willis, I have sorted it out, I had been doing everything correctly but the problem was with Internet explorer 5. I have been having all sorts of problems with KWIKLOG especially printing could only print one page, the second page was just a lot of bars, and I was having problems opening programs. What I did was download Windows Explorer 6 and presto the new map program COMAP works perfectly and all printing functions are back to normal. Page 2 prints perfectly.
34 - I notice that on the fixed log, the option button of ADDING A NEW CALL MESSAGE BOX is set at "NO, but add QSO", but on the mobile log, the "YES, ADD to CALL file" is set as the default. Shouldn't these both have the same default setting?Response: No, when you are logging mobile QSO's, the option default is "Add, Call to File" it is normally done after the fact and there is no emergent need to complete the QSO and the stations home QTH is not known or in the log, by adding to the log at this point you can finalize the QSO with the required data and the log will not have to be edited later. Note you can turn this feature off if speed becomes a factor such as contesting, and this is done in the configuration file. NOT recommended for regular county hunting purposes. Now in the FIXED log the option is to" Log the QSO" and edit the log later as you already have the necessary QTH of the station logged.
33 - I am having problems with using the state abbreviation because I have not learned all of abbreviations used yet. Is there a possibility that the program could display the full name when I click on the abbreviation?
Response: Yes and I have added that feature on 04-05-01 on both the fixed and mobile log input screen where it is not displayed in some fashion somewhere on the screen as it is on other windows. On the fixed log when you press on the enter key or double click on a selected abbreviation the full state name will be displayed at the bottom of the screen replacing the open log name. After you select the county, the open file name will reappear as before. On the Mobile log the full state name will be displayed above the list of counties and remain the until you select the county. I am aware that many of us have grown up with using these abbreviations but we must remember that many did not and the display is especially helpful to our foreign users just as the US Map option (under tools) on many pages was designed primarily for our foreign users years ago.
32 - I had a question raised in an e-mail yesterday regarding the new KWIKLOG PLUS program for DX-Island- Lighthouse. Question was -- "Will the new DX-Islands-Lighthouse features be an optional upgrade to the county hunter version?"
Response: NO! The new version will NOT be an update or an option to the KWIKLOG PLUS 2000 version for county hunters. It will be an entirely new program designed with Island and Lighthouse chasers in mind. It will however have the ability to track USA-CA, USA-CA All SSB and USA-CA All CW in addition to its basic functions (just as the county hunter version has limited DX in it also). There will be some duplication so users will have to make up their minds - do they want the program basically for county hunting (if so they will choose the KWIKLOG PLUS 2000 program that is presently being distributed) or do they want the program basically for chasing Islands and Lighthouses (and again if this is their choice they will elect to go with the New KWIKLOG PLUS DX-Island and Lighthouse Version ) OR, as I have been told, some will want to have both as they are equally interested in both Islands and Counties so the log files will be compatible to both and capable of import or export between each program. EXAMPLE: You work Pea Patch Island in Delaware Bay for example and you will have the USA-CA county of New Castle for the state of Delaware. Merging the two programs would just not be practical - The vast majority of our county hunters would not want to have to pay for the Island features, and I am sure the same could be said for the Island chasers who would not want to pay for the full counties options. I am not sure just yet how many Islands and Lighthouses will be in the program but the totals are already well over 4,000. Will program be as big as the counties version? "You betcha". Hopefully by having the USA-CA option in the new program will bring many more into the county chase. I do know that many of or county hunters are lready interested in the islands and a few in light houses.
31 - The address file access button takes me no where. Where do I set it up top go to the address file?
Response: The address file access button (found also under tools) is used to access the address file of your choice. It is not an access button to the call database files of Kwiklog. It is used to open external programs, such as Peach, Callbook, QRZ, Buckmaster and the like. See Page 21 and 22 of the manual on how to set up in your configuration file.
30 - Why would anyone want to print the State and County Status Window where you have added a print option?
Response: It is the only place in the program that you can determine the status of a county toward completion of all 20 of the books maintained by KWIKLOG that can be printed and used as an aide when the computer screen is not available.
29 Since downloading a recent update in February, it seems that the time it takes to load the log has increased. Why does it now take so long for the page to appear when going to the log and after I enter the QSO in the log and go to enter another QSO?
Response: I am quite confident that if you notice the delay as mentioned -- that you have the "Last County Verification" set at (N) rather then at (Y). You can change this setting in the configuration file or on the fixed or mobile log window. (N) will create the delay you mention as a (N) leaves the last county verification "ON" all the time. A (Y) turns this verification OFF. If you want the program to maintain an up-to-date list of last counties - you have to pay the price to do that as the list must be rebuilt every time you log a QSO. Most users leave this verification turned OFF (Y) unless they are down to only a few counties in many states.
28 I have a new computer with Windows ME on it. I copied all of the files in the old computer to my zip drive and then copied them to the new computer. The program will not run properly. What did I do wrong? (Also applies to a NEW LAPTOP with any Windows operating system)
Response. This was mentioned in the response to the last question #27 below. You MUST install the program on a new computer using the Original distribution CD. That CD has the setup program that sets up not only KWIN2000 to run but it also sets up your Windows Registry to run the windows program. This is the same as any windows program you put on the new computer. You must install the windows programs and not copy them. Once you have the program on the new computer using the setup on the original CD then you cam copy the files from the old computer and overwrite the updated data at any time or download files from the web. Lost your original CD then see question #20.
27. I downloaded the January #4 KWIN2000.ZIP file and it did not make the changes described to the program. What did I do wrong?
Response. You did not specify if you unzipped the file PRIOR to copying the file to the KWIN2000 directory. When you download the file it is zipped and it will not automatically copy the files to C :\ KWIN2000. You will need to unzip the file with PKUNZIP, WINZIP or other similar unzip programs. See question #20. There are also two other reasons why the program does not run, but neither apply to your situation. 1. The files will not run IF the original distribution disk was not installed on your computer First. The original CD has DLL and OCR and other files that are required to run the program. They are not on the downloaded file. (This is the reason why a lot of users, have problems when they switch computers - they have to Install the original CD that was shipped to them before copying files to the new computer) The other reason for sure is not a problem for you and that is - I have always shipped out programs and updates immediately to any county hunter so that they can get up running again as quick as possible. Unfortunately, there are a few (and I might add a very few) individuals that will order a program or an update who fail to make payment for the program or update. The call of these individuals is coded into the download files and the program will cease to operate for them once they attempt to upgrade their program via this web. Never had one yet for which I am thankful. Another reason that the files may have not updated the files is that you may have downloaded the file at a time when the files were being uploaded and you may have read the changes to the program which may have been posted to the web prior to the posting of the other upload files. To keep this from happening, I try not to upload the new download page, UNTIL after the program files have been uploaded. But some times I forget to do that.
26. I corrected the spelling of a county on the Book Window and now the county lines for this county no not appear on the screen when logging a county line. What did I do wrong?
Response. Well hopefully you did not arbitrarily change the name of a county and changed only the counties that are posted on this web site or otherwise announced by KWIKLOG PLUS. IF you did that - go back and rename the county back to what it was, If the county name spelling or name has been announced (as yours had been) then you failed to download the CLINES.ZIP file which contains all county lines and is changed and mentioned to download at the same time that an announcement is made. The county lines for the state in question will attach to an email unzipped, so send an e-mail to me at kk7x@kwiklog.com requesting the county line for the state and I will send out to you via e-mail.
25. I continue to get questions from users who change their call or their QTH. How do I change my call sign in the program?
Response. You can't change your call within KWIKLOG - when shipped KWIKLOG has an embedded call sign in the program. All reports that are printed bear this embedded call sign. IF you change your call sign - advise KJ4EJ of your new call by e-mail and specific instructions will be provided you with a floppy disk that when installed will make the required changes for you. This disk is FREE. This is necessary to prevent "piracy" of the program and is necessary to keep the price of the program as low as possible by having all users share in the cost and to provide the developer with the embedded call on those programs that are illegally copied by other users to determine where the original pirated copy of the program came from.
To change your QTH, simply go to the configuration and change your home QTH and county. Many users do this seasonally as they move to a summer residence. Kwiklog does not maintain an accurate list of County hunter addresses. When shipped the program is shipped with those addresses that have been developed throughout the years and the list is updated as address changes are reported to me. To change the address of some one in your Permanent call file. Go to the Permanent call file and edit the record for the individual you wish to change.
24. Quite often, I get inquiries about the use of colors, especially when they have occasion to see my personal copy of KWIKLOG PLUS 2000 in use asking how do I change the colors in KWIKLOG to show up as they do on your program? Why don't you ship it with those colors? Why not post on your web the color procedures you use?
Response: Well First, The colors are NOT actually changed within KWIKLOG but they are changed when your Windows Display Appearance settings are changed. I can not ship KWIKLOG PLUS 2000 with these settings as the settings are WINDOWS settings and many users use various background, appearance settings etc.. The procedure that I use is as follows: (only a suggestion - your choice of colors may vary)
1 - Click on My Computer - Select Control Panel - Select Display
2 - Click on Appearance
3 - Start with the WINDOWS standard appearance scheme
4 - Click on ITEM:
a - Scroll list and select "Active Item Bar"
Click and select Size 18, Color 1 Dark Blue, Color 2 yellow
Font Size 8, Color while Bold Yes
b - Scroll list and select "In-Active Item Bar"
Click and select Size 18, Color 1 Dark Red (Maroon), Color 2 yellow
Font Size 8, Color Gray Bold Yes
c - Scroll list and select "Menu"
Click and select Size 18, Color Gray
Font Size 8, Color Black Bold No (Do not set this to Bold )
d - Scroll list and select "Selected Item "
Click and select Size 18, Color Red
Font Size 8, Color White Bold No (Do not set this to Bold )
The above settings will ADD a lot of color to your KWIKLOG Windows, but more important can be used to highlight those selected items that you have selected on each window. Do take care NOT to Select BOLD on items c and d above as they will add an extra line to your window and cause some items near bottom of window to be partially out of sight on screen.
23. I am just unable to download and unzip files. Is there any way to obtain the updated files from you automatically?
Response. Yes and No,
YES --I can send them to you on a CD or floppy disks (if they are of a size that will fit on a floppy). Each file has a note in the description as to whether the file requires a CD or floppy. The CD or floppy disk is sent via 2-day priority mail at a cost of $15.00 for CD or $5.00 for floppy.
BUT remember that each and every monthly update file may not be required. IF you are satisfied with what you have now -- why upgrade the program? Maybe you should consider an update file only when a particular added feature is described in the update that you wish to have updated in your program as well.
and NO I do not make any automatic distribution of updates, for the reason as explained in paragraph ahead of this one.
22. I am now getting an error message when I try to view my "MASTER.QSO" file. Is there a size limitation on this file?
Response. Yes you hit it on right on the head. You should not allow your master.qso file (or any log file) to exceed 30,000 records. Simply rename the master.qso file master1.qso on the rename, Merge etc button on the log window. If you allowed your file to exceed this limit and are already over 30000 records. Send the file to KJ4EJ via e-mail attachment (or by regular mail with a SASE and the file will be split for you (free) .
21. I have tried to call you several times in the evening this week and get an answering service. Don't you ever stay home? When is best time to call?
Response: Sorry but after 7:00 PM Local Eastern time - We do NOT answer any incoming telephone calls, and all calls are transferred to an answering service. Remember KWIKLOG is not a for profit business but is entirely a hobby operation -- Evenings and Sundays around here are family time. Best time to call is Eastern time 10:00 AM thru 5:00PM daily except Sunday including Saturdays. If you have an urgent message try sending an e-mail and explain nature of problem --as I try to answer all e-mails every day early in the morning.
20. When I download a file from the download updates page, I can not get the file into my KWIN2000 directory? Any suggestions?
Response: One of the requirements listed for using the KWIN2000 program is to have the capability of being able to download files and unzip them (See KWIKLOG INFO) In lieu of that it would be necessary to order the unzipped files on a CD from KJ4EJ (or floppy if the file will fit on a floppy) at a minimum cost of preparation and mailing. ($15.00).
The files can be unzipped by any commercial Zip - Unzip program, and many programs are available thru shareware. I use WIN ZIP and also on occasion use the shareware program PKZIP and PKUNZIP to Zip and Unzip the files. The exact procedure varies with the program used -- so I am unable to give you a step by step procedure When you download a file from the Web it is NOT self-extracting (due to server restrictions) and after unzipping the file copy the files to the KWIN2000 directory. Your problem was in the use of PATHS. You must tell any download program - where to send the file (the path to where you will store the file) and then you must go to that location and then UNZIP the file and tell the zip program where to send the unzipped files. as an example:
A: TO download the file - when asked the path - enter C: \ DOWNLOADS or the name of the directory that will store the file until unzipped.
B: Then after downloading the file - Go to this directory and verify that the zipped file was downloaded.
C: Then run your ZIP program and when asked for the PATH to the file enter the path used in A: above and tell the program the path to unzip the files to which will be C: \ KWIN2000 or the path to your KWINN2000 program. Overwrite (Y or A) when asked to overwrite the files.
D: check the date of your files to see if the download and copy were processed correctly.
Just for info, I find that the greatest problem that most users have with downloading and unzipping the download files is that they fail to stop at the field in the unzip program and tell the unzip program where to download the files to and then they can't find the files. To find them rapidly, I have created a temporary directory on my hard drive named " DOWNLOAD" and I download everything to that directory where I can check it for viruses, and use it as a storage area for all downloads before copying to the appropriate program (KWIN2000). When unzip program asks where to send them -- type in C:\ DOWNLOAD. THEN AT C:\ DOWNLOAD type copy filename and ext C:\ KWIN2000 or use Windows explorer to copy the files to KWIN2000.
20A: When I download the monthly updates, I only copy the KWIN2000.exe file to my directory as the other files have already been added in previous downloads. Is this correct?
Response NO no no - Periodically a change that is posted to the Web involves files other then the kwin2000.exe file. To make sure that you always download the proper files, copy all of the files that are in the zipped file. A recent example: A change recently made in preparation for the new Colorado county to become effective in Nov 2001 requires that we will be using a new total (3077) rather then the present total (3076) of counties in determining the number of counties needed, worked, percentages etc. The file totcos.dat was created to handle this changing total and was included in the kwin2000.zip file. If you did not copy this file to your directory AFTER downloading the new exe file, you will get an error message on several pages that will utilize that file.
19. I love the new "NEED to WORK" window. It lets me see exactly what I need to work is so fast and simple to use. But it does not allow me to log the QSO as a mobile station.
Response: Yes the "Need to Work" Window is for use when operating "live" and you are fixed or portable. You should use the "Add to Log - You Mobile" option when entering mobile QSO's. You have already worked the station (few mobiles access this file when running mobile) and there is no need for a determination as to the need to work a station. You can obtain ALMOST all the same info from the recommended logging option "Add to Log - You Mobile" when entering mobile QSO's. HOWEVER this window has become so popular by users of KWIKLOG I am looking into the possibility of creating a similar window for mobile operation. ( I would then delete both the "ADD to LOG - You Fixed" and the "ADD to Log - You mobile" options from the log Window, as the new "Need to Work' options fixed and mobile would replace them. Would like to hear from you in that regard. Note: Need to work and Add a QSO to log you fixed combined 09-15-00.
18. What is the purpose of the "Post a Single Book" field on the configuration file? Why would you want to post a single book.?
Response: The purpose of this field - is as its name implies - is to post your logs to a single book rather then to all books which is the default. The purpose is to speed up the posting of the log as you are bypassing the posting functions of all books except the book selected. You may, for example, decide that you would NOW like to track the USA-PA award and want to go back and post ALL of your old logs to obtain credits for that book which was heretofore not posted. You may also have a lot of bad contacts in one of your books, for example, in the early versions of Kwiklog there was not a stop function placed on the posting of Master Gold if you were not eligible to participate in the award and many users - not knowing the requirements, posted and tracked Master Gold. and the book may have a lot of ineligible credits in it when you became eligible. By resetting the Master Gold Book and placing a Y in the "Post a Single Book" field, selecting Master Gold and save, the book can be reposted and only good credits will be posted. It is therefore used at anytime you wish to re-post your logs and "clean up" any bad entries in that book. BUT don't forget to set the field back to N when you finish posting the logs or only that book will be posted in the future if you forget
17. A county line was run the other day. KWIKLOG does not list that county as a possible county line. Should I enter the QSO as a county line and if so how do I do it?
Response: First - The county line file that is in KWIKLOG is a list of county lines used for logging speed only. It was created by knowledgeable mobile operators, in each state, over the past several years, and is constantly being edited. It can be downloaded from this web site -- see CLINES.ZIP. It is NOT an official list of county lines. KWIKLOG has spelled out many times - that the mobile knows where he is ! I would appreciate a report of all such lines, so that I can make a determination to add the line or not to add the line. Send the lines involved to kk7x@kwiklog.com . It is not uncommon for a mobile, especially new mobiles, to mistakenly run a county line that does not fall into the rules governing the use of county lines. County lines have also been noted that change as river beds change over time rendering a possibility that the line can now be run in accordance with the rules. Users must use their own best judgment on whether to log a questionable or unlisted county line. If you decide to log the QSO as a county line and it is not on the list of county lines simply enter the QSO for each county separately. But please report the questionable line to me . DO NOT ARGUE THE POINT with the Net Control or the Mobile. Remember always - the mobile knows where he is.
16. I have recently finished BINGO and want to start BINGO II. Do I put the date of my BINGO number in the Multiple Bingo field in the configuration file?
Response: NO. That field is used only when you finish up BINGO II III etc. The program will search your call data, and post to BINGO II only those QSO's dated after the date in your call file for Bingo II credits. Therefore be sure that you enter the Bingo number and date of the award in your call file (USA-CA/BINGO window) and that you RESET your BINGO book (Home- file- setup and then click on RESET- select BINGO book only). Several county hunters have started BINGO III. It became necessary to have a means of setting a rollover date for these multiple BINGO awards. Unlike the USA-CA award where there are fields for awards (up to 5) there is no provision for multiple Bingo awards. The field Multiple BINGO rollover date was created to handle that situation. Use it only after you have finished and been awarded a multiple Bingo award number. (BINGO II and above)
15. The files in KWIKLOG PLUS 2000 are too large to fit on a floppy. How can I backup my files?
Response: As the programs we use keep getting larger and larger (Such as KWIKLOG PLUS 2000) it is essential that alternative methods of backing up files must be employed. First we should learn to utilize any good existing Backup program, that compress files, such as Windows Backup options, obtain and setup a ZIP drive or CD Writer to backup to. I have found that most users prefer to backup to ZIP drives, or a second Hard drive. If you elect to back up to a zip drive or hard drive -- create a directory on them to receive the backup files. I will describe the ZIP drive setup (I will use the zip drive letter of D: in this example - which should be change in your actual use to that of your own zip drive letter. Remember that if your Hard drive is partitioned DO NOT use the HD option to make a backup. (If your hard drive goes up you will have no access to the backup as the partition is on the same hard drive)
I have had two users ask me for assistance in use of their zip drive after they discovered that they had been backing up (supposedly) their data files to their zip drive only to discover that they had failed to make a directory on their zip drive to hold the files being copied to the drive. Luckily both users were able to reconstruct the majority of their files, but some data was lost forever. If you backup to a zip drive - treat the zip drive just like you would treat another hard drive. Make directories to store the data. DO NOT COPY TO THE ZIP DRIVE without designating a directory . If your zip drive letter is D; the go to D: drive, make a directory named KWIN2000 and the batch files (Backupz?.bat) in the program will do the rest. (Where ? is your zip drive letter)
a: Install and setup the Zip Drive. (If external and attached to printer port - start computer with zip drive attached) ( I use a common A/B switch for printer and zip drive)
b: go to the zip drive DOS prompt and create a directory. D:> MD KWIN2000
c: go to your configuration file and enter D: in the ZIP drive letter field.
d. go to UTILITY MENU, click on backup and select ZIP drive - that's it.
14. What happened to the "HOW DO I DO IT FORUM" that was on your web a week or so ago?
Response: It has been replaced by the HOW DO I DO IT window on the web site.
13. I would like to get credit for the USA-PA awards from my old logs. Can I re-post the logs and get this credit without adversely affecting any of my other books?
Response; Sure can. There is no starting date for the award therefore any log that you have created in the past can be re-posted to the USA-PA book without danger to any of your other awards. To greatly reduce the time required to do this re-post, I suggest that you go to the configuration file, click on the red line field "POST A SINGLE BOOK" and change the N to a Y, then select USA-PA book only and save the change. then post away. You will discover that the posting of the log file is very fast, and you can re-post all of your logs in a very short time. This same thing can be done for other books as well - should you have a need to re-post the entire book. BUT don't forget to change the Y now in the Configuration file back to N when you are done posting the single book.
12 -My old QSL cards (up to xx-xx-98) were from county name), Colorado. All QSO's after that date will be from (county name), Arizona. Will I be able to change the default while inputting these old cards or will I have to type them all in the old county?
Response: No typing - KWIKLOG will do it for you. Go to the configuration file, under file on home page, and then change the state and county shown as your QTH. PS: If these cards are already confirmed you may wish to temporarily change the "Confirm as You Post Log" field from N to Y - so when you post these old entries they will be confirmed for you. But don't forget to change these setting back when done.
11 - What is the CORRECT ENTRY for the time zone field in the configuration file?
Response: Enter the number of hours you need to add to the local time to arrive at UTC. You live in New Jersey. The entry is 4 or 5 depending on DST, which added to local time equals UTC. IF it is 2:00 PM DST on your computer clock (local time) you need to add 5 hours to change clock to 19:00 hours 02 + 12 (after noon) + 5 = 19 UTC. DO NOT SET your computer to UTC as that affects other programs adversely. When you click on a time field KWIKLOG adds this figure to your computer clock and inserts the correct UTC in your log. Good question - Thanks Note: You will receive an automatic notification when you first start KWIKLOG Plus 2000 on the first and last day of Daylight saving time each year alerting you to change your configuration time zone field accordingly.
10 - What is the difference in the Need to work option and the Add to log you fixed option? They both appear to do the same thing
Response: You are correct the do appear to do the same thing and that is too Add a QSO to your log. But, the NEED to work option displays information as to whether the Station running the county - WILL or WILL NOT post to the various books IF worked and also displays the USA-PA prefix book status that is not on the ADD to Log window..
09 - I have noticed that every once in a while something just stops working and nothing I can do will correct the situation. Any suggestions?
Response: I don't have all the facts necessary to answer your question properly but chances are that you have exited or quit the program with a file still open and that file is still in use as far as your computer is concerned, then when you try to use that file again it just doesn't respond or you may get a run time error message. You may also have too many things open and running which is using up your memory space. Properly close a program when exiting. When surfing the internet this can be a frequent problem. Check to see if you have more then one KWIKLOG open and running. I have seen this happen quite often when going off the program to check e-mails, internets. etc. and then re-starting the program again. You can check what is in memory by clicking on CTRL/ALT/ DEL keys simultaneously. If more then one is open click on the end task button. As a last resort simply re-boot your computer and the hang up will be freed.
08 - When I go to enter a new USA-CA number the number field is limited to 3 digits and appears as 100 and I can not change it to 10001, 1002, etc. How can I enter the numbers above 999?
Response: When this portion was written - the number 1000 seemed a long way off and there was no provision for 1000. But it was recognized that we would soon need a four digit number in the near future and the file was modified to accommodate 4 digit numbers. However the window you are looking at, unfortunately, was not increased in size to display the 4 digits. If you will look at the numbers windows for USA-CA you will see that the USA-CA number is in the file OK - It just did not show up properly in the mentioned window. This field has been modified and now displays the four numbers. You can download KWIKWIN.ZIP, unzip the file, and copy to KWIKWIN to get the modification. No data is being lost even if you do not update or wait for KWIKLOG PLUS 2000 where the field is properly displayed.
07 - Now that you have released the PLUS 2000 program what is the future or status of the KWIKLOG Plus for Windows, and KWIKLOG DOS - Versions?
Response: First the KWIKLOG Plus for Windows version will still be serviced, and any changes in the program will remain available on this web for Free download. However, I expect no changes to the program except to improve any option already in the program. You DO NOT have to upgrade to the Plus 2000 program unless you want the additional features. The additional features will not be added to the Windows version, because that is what the Plus 2000 program does. Now for the DOS version, I will continue to render any assistance that I can to those that are still using that program, however, there are no changes being made to the DOS program. The reason being - DOS is out - Windows is in. We can't service two different operating systems. Copies of the dated files are still on hand and available on request, by CD. They are not available by download from this web.
06 - Manual Changes for Plus 2000 have been updated - click on MANUAL UPDATES
05 - It seems that every year or so a new version is released - will this continue? I hate having to pay an update fee every year.
Response: All updates are FREE and always have been! First, we issue new versions as the needs of county hunters change and to include many suggestions we receive from users after a program comes out. We have always taken pride in that we stay current with what county hunters are doing. Second, If you like the program you are using then why update at all? That is the program you paid for and updates for that program are always FREE on the web to keep that program updated. The update fee is for those requesting a CD being mailed to them and that barely covers the cost in getting the CD to you -- there is a lot of work, and I mean hundreds of hours, to develop and maintain a full featured logging program with all the rules that are found in the many awards being tracked by the program. But I seriously doubt that I will develop any future versions of the program not, that I don't want to, but I must face the truth -- I just am not as young and energetic as I used to be - darn it.
04 - Will the new PLUS 2000 program include the new USA-PA program and the new MARAC contest program?
Response: Yes it does -- they are both included and many other new features - for more information click here KWIN2000 INFO.

GENERAL CHANGES
THE name of the program has been changed to KWIKLOG PLUS 2000. The program default directory is C:\KWIN2000.
All references to KWIKLOG Plus for Windows, KWIKLOG, or KWIKWIN throughout this manual should be considered to read KWIKLOG PLUS 2000.
THE program feature in all previous versions of this program that required you to click on a message box to QUIT the program has been eliminated
When you click on a ‘Quit" button or menu option to Quit. You will close the program and immediately be retuned to your desktop. When exiting the program, do not use the (X) in the upper right of the screen if you have any open files. You can tell if you exited with an open file by clicking on ctrl/alt/delete and if KWIKLOG shows up in the list of open files. No problem ordinarily unless you wish to open the open file again and you will receive a run time or access denied message. (Two programs open or file in use (memory)
The HELP files on all windows now make reference to the Manual pages, or addendum (this section) for instructions or more information.
Many users are now reaching log files (master.qso) that are reaching or have exceed the program limit of about 32000 records. Once this size limit for a single file is exceeded you may get an error message and find out that you can no longer edit or view this large file. If your file reached 30,000 records, I suggest that you rename the file Master1.qso and start a new master.qso file. This is done on the Log window - Rename. If you have already exceeded the file send the file to KJ4EJ with a request that the file be split for you.
